FAQ – Redactwizard Pro 2 & Legal

What is Redactwizard?

Redactwizard is a locally executed Windows application for redacting, anonymizing, and pseudonymizing confidential documents.

The software analyzes and processes documents directly on your own computer and combines local AI detection, OCR, PDF editing, manual redaction tools, and batch processing.

Redactwizard is currently available in two editions: Redactwizard Pro 2 and Redactwizard Legal.

Redactwizard Pro 2 replaces the previous Pro and Medical editions. Redactwizard Legal replaces the previous Legal edition and remains available as a separate product.

What is the difference between Redactwizard Pro 2 and Redactwizard Legal?

Redactwizard Legal is the compact edition for everyday local document redaction. It includes one integrated PII model and focuses on PDF and text processing.

Redactwizard Pro 2 is the extended edition with four integrated AI models, native PDF vector redaction, Office support, DOCX processing, and additional features for more complex document and specialist workflows.

Does Redactwizard work locally or in the cloud?

Document processing and integrated AI detection take place locally on the Windows PC.

Documents do not need to be transferred to a cloud or external AI service for local AI analysis.

The integrated AI models are included in the respective application and do not need to be downloaded from a server afterward.

Does Redactwizard require an additional AI or model download?

No.

The respective integrated AI models are already included in the application.

Redactwizard is therefore ready for local processing without requiring a separate model download after deployment.

Which AI model is included with Redactwizard Legal?

Redactwizard Legal includes one integrated PII model.

The model is designed to detect personally identifiable and other sensitive information and supports multilingual detection across 100+ languages.

Which AI models are included with Redactwizard Pro 2?

Redactwizard Pro 2 includes four integrated models:

Model Focus
PII Primary Personally identifiable information, organizations, addresses, contact information, financial data, and other PII categories
PII Helper Structured identifiers such as IBAN, BIC, credit card numbers, SSN, VIN, IMEI, MAC addresses, and cryptocurrency addresses
Medical Medical and clinical content such as diseases, diagnoses, treatments, and examinations
Legal EU Legal entities such as lawyers, courts, legal norms, regulations, contracts, court decisions, and other legal references

The four models can be used individually or together depending on the document and workflow.

Which languages does Redactwizard support?

PII detection in both Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 supports more than 100 languages.

In Pro 2, the Medical model is designed for German and English.

The Legal EU model adds specialized detection for legal entities and terminology and is currently focused primarily on legal content in German.

Detection depends on the activated model, the selected entity classes, and the characteristics of the document.

What information can the AI detect?

The available detection categories vary depending on the edition and enabled model.

Redactwizard Legal focuses on personal and general sensitive information such as persons, organizations, locations, addresses, contact information, financial data, and technical identifiers.

Redactwizard Pro 2 extends this functionality with the PII Helper, Medical, and Legal EU models to cover structured identifiers as well as medical and legal content.

Can Redactwizard Pro 2 detect medical content?

Yes.

The integrated Medical model can detect medical and clinical content, including:

  • Diseases and diagnoses
  • Treatments and medications
  • Tests and examinations

The Medical model supports German and English.

Can Redactwizard Pro 2 detect legal content?

Yes.

The Legal EU model extends general PII detection with specialized legal entities.

These can include courts, legal norms, lawyers, court decisions, contracts, regulations, and other legal terminology.

Which file formats does Redactwizard Legal support?

Redactwizard Legal is designed for processing PDF and text files.

It supports in particular:

PDF · TXT

Redactwizard Legal does not support DOCX, ODF, XLSX, or PPTX processing.

Which file formats does Redactwizard Pro 2 support?

Redactwizard Pro 2 supports PDF and text files as well as Office documents.

Supported formats include:

PDF · TXT · DOCX · ODF · XLSX · PPTX

Office documents can be structurally read, analyzed, and edited.

Does Redactwizard Pro 2 support DOCX editing?

Yes.

Redactwizard Pro 2 can structurally analyze and edit DOCX documents.

This includes elements such as paragraphs, tables, and formatting. An integrated preview allows users to visually inspect processed documents.

Complex Office files may contain additional XML structures, embedded objects, revision information, or other components that are not immediately visible. Automatically processed Office documents should therefore always be reviewed before being shared.

Can Redactwizard process scanned PDF documents?

Yes.

Both Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 support OCR for scanned PDF documents.

This allows documents whose content originally exists only as an image to be analyzed and processed.

Detection quality depends, among other things, on image quality, resolution, rotation, typography, and the complexity of the source document.

How does PDF redaction work in Redactwizard Legal?

Redactwizard Legal uses full raster output for creating redacted PDF documents.

Each page is rendered as a raster image and then saved back into a PDF. The redactions therefore become part of the image matrix of the respective page.

The original PDF text layer is not retained as editable or searchable text.

How does PDF redaction work in Redactwizard Pro 2?

Redactwizard Pro 2 supports two methods:

Native Vector Redaction

Affected PDF content is processed directly. Unaffected content can remain as real, selectable, and searchable PDF text.

Full Raster Output

For complex PDF structures, problematic font encoding, or content that cannot be reliably processed as vector content, full raster output can be used.

Each page is rendered as a raster image and the redaction is permanently embedded into the image matrix.

Can I redact content manually?

Yes.

Both Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 provide manual editing tools for content that is not detected automatically or cannot be detected reliably.

These include:

  • Rectangles
  • Freehand areas
  • Polygons
  • Blur
  • Text
  • Stamps
  • Bates numbering

This allows users to specifically process signatures, stamps, logos, handwritten notes, and graphical elements.

Why do I need manual tools if Redactwizard uses AI?

Not every sensitive element can be reliably detected automatically.

Graphical elements, handwritten content, unusual layouts, and other non-standard content may fall outside reliable AI detection.

The manual tools therefore provide an additional means of targeted editing and review.

Do Legal and Pro 2 support blacklists and whitelists?

Yes.

Terms can be controlled in both editions using blacklists and whitelists.

Terms can be selected directly in the editor and added to a list through the context menu.

This allows specific content to be processed independently of automatic AI detection or excluded from automatic redaction.

Does Redactwizard support saved filter profiles?

Yes.

Filter settings can be saved and reused for recurring processing tasks.

Can multiple documents be processed at the same time?

Yes.

Both editions support batch processing.

Redactwizard Legal can automatically process multiple PDF or text documents.

Redactwizard Pro 2 can additionally process multiple documents or complete directories and, depending on the workflow, combine OCR, AI detection, and logging.

Does Redactwizard support barcode redaction?

Yes.

Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 support automatic barcode detection and redaction in the PDF Editor.

Does Redactwizard support pseudonymization?

Yes.

Both editions can pseudonymize personal information locally.

Identifying information can be replaced with consistent placeholders. The pseudonymization itself takes place locally on the user's computer.

Can Redactwizard Pro 2 prepare content for ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?

Yes.

Redactwizard Pro 2 includes an optional AI Chat feature for external large language models.

Document content can be pseudonymized locally before being transferred to an external service. Identifying information can therefore be replaced with placeholders before transmission.

The actual pseudonymization within Redactwizard is performed locally.

Important: Once data is transmitted to an external provider, that provider's privacy, security, and contractual terms also apply. The result should always be reviewed for complete pseudonymization before sending the data.

Does Redactwizard Legal include AI Chat?

No.

The optional external AI Chat feature is available exclusively in Redactwizard Pro 2.

Redactwizard Legal focuses on local document redaction, anonymization, and pseudonymization.

How many workspaces does Redactwizard provide?

Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 each provide four independent virtual workspaces.

They can be used, for example, for different clients, projects, cases, or document collections.

Multiple documents can be opened in parallel and organized using tabs within these workspaces.

Do the editions include a local archive?

Yes.

Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 include an integrated local archive and recycle bin.

Processed document versions can be managed locally and deleted archive objects can initially be restored.

Is access protection available?

Yes.

Both editions can optionally use 4-digit PIN protection.

What is the Billing Timer?

The integrated Billing Timer allows users to record working time directly within Redactwizard.

Is Redactwizard portable?

Yes.

Redactwizard Legal and Redactwizard Pro 2 are provided as portable Windows applications.

A traditional installation is not required.

The required components and integrated AI models are included in the respective application.

How large is Redactwizard Legal?

The portable Redactwizard Legal package is currently approximately 61 MB.

The integrated AI model is already included.

The size of the Pro 2 package may vary depending on the included models and the specific release.

Are there usage limits?

Redactwizard is designed as local desktop software and does not use cloud-based document processing or usage-based token billing.

Specific technical limitations may nevertheless depend on the particular function, document, available memory, and hardware.

Does the AI guarantee complete detection?

No.

AI-based detection can produce incorrect, incomplete, or incorrectly classified results.

The software should therefore be treated as an assistance tool. A final manual review of the results before sharing or publishing is required or strongly recommended.

Is redaction automatically completely secure?

No automated processing can guarantee that every relevant piece of information in a document has been detected and correctly processed.

Manual review is particularly important for complex document structures, problematic scans, or content outside the supported entity classes.

Redactwizard Pro 2 additionally provides full raster output for PDF documents.

Is Redactwizard GDPR-compliant or HIPAA-compliant?

Redactwizard provides technical functions for privacy-sensitive document processing, particularly local processing, AI detection, OCR, pseudonymization, and redaction.

However, using the software alone does not automatically establish GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, or other legal compliance.

Actual compliance depends on the specific use case, internal processes, services used, and applicable laws and regulations.

Who is Redactwizard Legal suitable for?

Redactwizard Legal is designed primarily for professional users who need a compact local solution for everyday document redaction.

This can include:

lawyers, law firms, experts, consultants, companies, public authorities, HR departments, and other professional users.
